Chinese Ice Dancers Face Investigation Following Displaying Toy Missile during Event
ISU officials have launched an investigation following two Chinese ice dancers were seen holding an object resembling a replica weapon during an international skating competition.
Broadcast footage showed the skaters waiting alongside a large toy in the form of a missile marked “DF-61” as they awaited the judges' results at the “kiss and cry” zone on Saturday.
The DF-61 represents a new Chinese-made ground-launched long-range weapon designed for transporting atomic warheads, that had been unveiled at a military parade recently.
Officials is aware of an unsuitable soft toy seems to have been one of the objects thrown on to the rink by audience members after a routine during the competition,” the organization stated in an emailed statement.
The item was subsequently held by the skaters who had just performed. We regrets this occurrence and will investigate further.”
Ren and Xing placed eighth out of ten teams in the ice dance event, with the victory going to the American pair of the United States.
