19 of the Russian's 21 championships have been earned on hard courts

A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his first championship for nearly 30 months with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has experienced a torrid year, achieving just one match at the major tournaments and suffering a meltdown at the New York tournament.

His varied form on the tennis tour - and issues with his serve in specific - resulted in him falling of the elite rankings and ultimately parting ways with long-time mentor Cervara.

Currently working with his coach and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily advanced in the last few weeks - peaking in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's maiden title since the Rome competition and maiden on a hardcourt from that period of the previous year.

Success also signifies he has won 21 championships at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"For the first time I have attended a competition with my two daughters at once, so to get a championship is really nice," stated world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my child Victoria, because the first title I won when my child her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his past six championship matches, including in that event previously this season.

His defensive approach and frequent outbursts on the tennis court had caused some to wonder if his capacity to perform at the top level was finished.

Yet the player has made changes in recent weeks, striving to advance forward and compete assertively, reinforced by an enhanced serve.

Medvedev came back from a break down in the opening set against the challenging Frenchman, taking four of the last five games to take the lead.

The competitors swapped break points in the middle set before the challenger, attempting for his initial ATP Tour championship, gained dominance to push for a third set.

He saved 4 early-game opportunities in a tight final set before the Russian won the break to 15 to close out the victory.

Fittingly, Medvedev secured victory with a shot at the net area, with the Frenchman unable to control a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
