Diving into a Unusual Steam Game Trial: Guiding a Poop in a Mission to Reach the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and enthusiasts have found plenty of interesting creations from small studios. But, one catches the eye for its unconventional concept. Called Unko Technica, this old-school styled side-scrolling game features a hero that is truly a dung attempting to travel to a toilet. As a fun fact, "Unko" means "poop."
How you interact is straightforward: just use a single jump button. Throughout numerous stages, battle boss fights and access a shop to acquire customizations for your poop character.
Time your jumps carefully, as a wrong move requires beginning again. Bounce on air pockets to hurl your character upward, cross disappearing ledges, and interact with buttons to unlock hidden paths. Gather coins to purchase more difficult levels where the action ramps up.
Graphically, the experience features vibrant environments and a killer music score. The retro graphics of morphing abstract forms evokes memories of fans of old favorites like Earthbound.
Even though hard to name other games where you control a coiled turd, interactive entertainment frequently featured scatological themes. For instance, in Death Stranding, you can make throwables from protagonist droppings. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use feces as soil enrichment. Naturally, fecal references is present heavily in the role-playing game The Stick of Truth.
Despite its goofy concept, Unko Technica has already earned impressive accolades, like taking top honors at Bandai Namco's game competition in 2023. This trial version is ready at present on Steam, with the complete version planned to launch on computers in the fall.
