Jim Gavin Withdraws From Irish Presidential Race Immediately
The Fianna Fáil nominee Jim Gavin has declared he is pulling out from the race for Ireland's head of state immediately.
He was scheduled to be one of three candidates standing for the Irish presidency, beside Independent TD Catherine Connolly and Fine Gael candidate Heather Humphreys.
However, Sunday night he announced via a statement he had "made a mistake that was not in keeping with my character and his personal standards."
"Considering all these factors, I have decided to exit the presidential race immediately and return to the arms of my family," he declared in a statement.
Further updates expected.
