A eye-opening documentary exploring the Catholic clergy molestation crisis in New Orleans has just won the honor for top feature at Colorado’s Winter Park movie celebration.

Named “God As My Witness,” the production makes clear that perpetrators of these crimes cannot hide, while offering a voice to victims and pushing for justice.

Presentations of the film at the event in the beginning of fall apparently drew full houses, with numerous viewers visibly affected by the narrative.

Directed by local filmmaker and developed by Michael Brandner Sr, the feature-length film is inspired by personal experiences, including the discovery of letters written by a clergyman recognized of child molestation.

The account also includes numerous survivors who suffered assault while living in religious settings in the area.

Moreover, the documentary covers the bankruptcy proceedings undergone by the religious institution, which entered financial reorganization in mid-2020 due to numerous lawsuits of misconduct.

Through latest reports, the legal process continues to be ongoing, though hundreds of claimants are now voting on a potential agreement valued at $230 million.

The filmmakers received the award on an early fall date. The producer described that observing survivors receive the award was profoundly moving.

“These individuals transitioned from someone harmed to survivor to champion,” he said. “It was truly impactful.”

Before the Colorado event, the documentary received shortlisted for a major award at the Raindance film festival in June.

The film also premiered at an event in the European nation, where it was permitted to be presented in a sacred setting by a high-ranking church official.

As stated by event directors, the film skillfully presenting a city-based story into a global one.

Looking ahead, the film is likely scheduled to premiere at the local cinema event in the end of the month.

Admissions for that event are expected to go on sale in the second week of the month.
